Direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) enables fabrication of accurate tool inserts or metal components in a process in which a high-power laser sinters special non-shrinking steel or bronze-base metal powders layer by layer. The fabricated tool inserts may be applied in pressure diecasting, injection molding deep-drawing and a variety of other technologies. In addition, the metal components are durable enough to serve as functional prototypes.
