May 18--The Waco area is getting more hotels, which is good for those needing a place to stay but bad for competitors.
Several local hotels report sluggish room-occupancy rates -- a phenomenon being experienced statewide.
"It's a blessing and a curse," said Stan Hodge, director of travel research for the Texas Department of Economic Development. "The room supply around the state is growing faster than room nights sold, so hotels are ending up with a slight decrease in occupancy."
