Some people in Skaneateles want to restrict personal watercraft under a 2000 state law that lets towns, villages and cities regulate the vessels in their waters.
No Central New York community has used that power yet.
But six Adirondack communities, a Long Island village, a lower Hudson River town and the Binghamton suburb of Sanford have restricted the craft in some way.
It's an issue that has split Skaneateles and left officials, including Supervisor Bill Pavlus, calling for a compromise.
