THERE'S only a handful of compact executive cars to choose from and the market seems to be dominated by the likes of Audi and BMW.
The BMW 3-Series is most likely to be top answer if you ask someone to name a smart and sophisticated smaller saloon, especially if you throw "sporty" in as an added clue. Audi's A4 should run a fairly close second.
