SOME years ago, the glamorous socialite Elizabeth Harris, former wife of actors Sir Rex Harrison and Richard Harris, wrote an instructive little column in the Daily Mail, entitled How To Stay Friends With Your Ex.
She advised that a full year should elapse between breaking up and getting in touch again, that you should treat your former lover with the same respect as a mere acquaintance, flirting with them is taboo and it is best to meet in public at a party.
In fact, more than 20 years have elapsed since she was last involved with the ex she is currently seeing - disgraced Tory minister Jonathan Aitken.
