May 25--Oh say can you see all those red-and-white striped bathing suits on sale this weekend?
Retailers have always stocked patriotic-themed merchandise for Independence Day, but this year they've brought out the star-studded flip-flops, quilts and sweaters for Memorial Day.
Traditionally, the holiday honoring American veterans has "been more associated with barbecues and the pool opening," said Sarah Scheuer, spokeswoman for the National Retail Federation.
