A SPANIARD was today named the next director of Tate Modern - ending an 11-month search for the right person to head Britain's most successful new gallery.
The job has gone to Vicente Todoli, 43, who has worked in visual arts for two decades and is founding director of the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art in Porto, which opened three years ago. Mr Todoli will take up his role early next year but will be involved in decision-making and future programmes at Tate Modern from this September.
