You can't always a judge a beer by its label.

Case in point: American imports of Fuller's London Pride have recently come with labels that call it a "pale ale." But the same beer has traditionally been labeled here and in Britain as a "bitter."

Closer to home, the F.X. Matt brewery in Utica keeps you guessing with Saranac Pilsener (it's the Saranac in the bright yellow label). Above the word Pilsener, in smaller letters, the label says "American wheat."

Anyone who knows beer will tell you that a wheat and a pilsener (also spelled pilsner) are not the same thing.
