PHILADELPHIA -- Results of a new nationwide study show that three times as many people may suffer from bipolar disorder (also known as manic-depression) than previously estimated. Survey results from more than 85,000 Americans found that approximately one-third of those who screened positive for bipolar disorder had been misdiagnosed as having unipolar depression.(i) The data were presented today at the American Psychiatric Association's (APA) annual scientific meeting.
