SAN FRANCISCO -- Clinical data presented today at the annual Digestive Disease Week meeting demonstrated that a combination of Aciphex(R) (rabeprazole sodium) and antibiotics eradicated Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection in seven days as effectively as 10-day therapy with Prilosec(R) (omeprazole) and antibiotics, a standard treatment regimen for H. pylori.
H. pylori is a type of bacteria believed to be the single most common cause of peptic ulcers. Currently, more than half of American adults over age 60 are infected with H. pylori and one in 10 Americans will develop an ulcer in their lifetime.
