DESPITE MEDIA REPORTS associating Accutane, the controversial acne drug, with depression and suicide, no definite links have been found, according to the Food and Drug Administration. As of March 2001, 66 instances of Accutane-user suicide had been reported to the FDA since the drug's introduction in 1982, translating into a known-suicide rate of 0.00055 per 100,000. The suicide rate for the general population is 10 per 100,000; that for the 15- to 24-year old age bracket (which is most likely to be using Accutane) is 11.3 per 100,000.
