SAN JOSE _ Sometimes it seems as if a hint of controversy follows the "World's Fastest Human" around the track.
At least in the case of Maurice Greene, who Thursday announced he would make his 2002 American debut at the national outdoor track and field championships at Stanford on June 21-23.
Greene, the defending Olympic champion, world champion and world-record holder in the sport's premier event _ the 100 meters, seems to enjoy spirited repartee with rivals.
The latest involves Tim Montgomery, who ran the third-fastest time in history last season at 9.84 seconds. Greene set the world record of 9.79 in 1999.
