Author Thomas Keneally offers evidence that no bad deed goes unrewarded in "American Scoundrel: The Life of the Notorious Civil War General Dan Sickles," his artful biography of general, politician, crook and womanizer Daniel Edgar Sickles. Sickles went from one turpitude to another in the course of his long life, each step leading to yet another prize or distinction, until he died in 1914 at age 94, full of honors.
