Jun. 1--RALEIGH, N.C.--It was a refreshing scene Friday at the Raleigh-Durham International Airport.
Gone was any sense of the gloom and doom that has plagued the airline industry since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Instead, there were cake and balloons. The television news cameras weren't there to take pictures of weary passengers standing in long lines. Instead, they were there to record about 100 travelers being the first to check in for the inaugural flight of America West, the airport's newest air carrier.
