THE head of the European Central Bank and guardian of the euro, Wim Duisenberg, is under attack over comments by his wife that 'Israel is kept alive by the rich Jews of New York'.
Gretta Duisenberg's remarks have been branded 'anti-Semitic' and have enraged the large Jewish population in the suburb of Amsterdam where she and her husband have a [pound]2 million villa.
And the dispute has escalated into an international confrontation.
Herman Loonstein, head of a Dutch Jewish organisation, has asked the American-based World Jewish Congress to intervene and wants the Duisenbergs banned from visiting the ...
