In response to excitement generated by the printed version of its "Presidential Elections" map, which illustrates how U.S. citizens have voted in every presidential election since 1789, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) recently added the map's election data to its interactive, World Wide Web-based National Atlas of the United States (http://www.nationalatlas).
Intended to accommodate interest in the history and geography of closely contested elections, the map depicts 54 election results--from George Washington in 1789 to George W Bush in 2000--and provides users with concise summaries of how the presidents were elected as well as how the views of voters have ...
