APPLE CONCENTRATE - The U.S. imported 3.7 million gallons of 70 Brix concentrate in the first month of 2002, a 21% increase from the same period of time in 2001.
So far, Argentina is the top U.S. supplier for foreign concentrate. Imports from Chile, which had bounced back considerably in 2001, were dropped 3% to 342,034 gallons.
Argentina's apple production in 2001/2002 is forecast at 1.0 million metric tons, 25% below the 2000/2001 crop, due to unfavorable weather, according to USDA. Chile's apple production in 2001/2002 is also expected to drop at least 10% to 900,000 metric tons due to unstable weather last spring, cloudy skies and lower than normal ...
