WHITES DOMINATE 1990 MERCURY NEWS CALIFORNIA WINE AWARDS
SAN JOSE, Calif., July 24 /PRNewswire/ -- A chardonnay, a johannisberg riesling and a chenin blanc took top honors in the 13th annual Mercury News California Wine Awards.
The professional panel of 74 wine industry experts, which included winery owners, winemakers, restaurauteurs and wine writers, met at the San Jose Convention Center on July 17 to pick their top choices. The professionals awarded three gold medals: Cambria Winery Santa Maria Valley 1988 Chardonnay ($25); Fetzer Vineyards 1989 California Johannisberg Riesling ($6.49); and Simi Winery 1989 Mendocino County Chenin Blanc ($6).
