Melbourne Transport Enterprises (MTE), Australia, is preparing to take delivery of the first of 58 three-car trains, manufactured by Alstom in France. The first of the new X'Trapolis trains has recently left the factory and will take eight weeks to reach Australia. They will be assembled at Connex's Bayswater depot and will be rigorously tested. The first train is expected to be in service in December 2002.
In Melbourne, the Connex network stretches across six passenger lines in Melbourne's eastern and north-eastern suburbs, covering 240 km of track, 176 bridges and 90 railway stations. Each year more than 54 million passenger trips are taken on Connex services. ...
