PORTLAND - Neither Springfield nor North Medford could score for nine innings, so in the 10th inning the international tiebreaker was instituted.
"You never know what's going to happen then," Springfield coach Kim Badley said.
The 10th inning sent hearts racing up and down in both dugouts before Darcy Cordell finally scored the winning run on an error to lead North Medford to a 1-0 victory in the Class 4A softball championship game at Erv Lind Stadium.
Under tiebreaker rules, each team starts the inning with a runner on second base, and the Millers had the first opportunity.
