Jun. 5--When Doug Scheible watches the weather reports, he could become as depressed as the farm economy.
The president of Hutchinson /Mayrath, a Clay Center manufacturer of agricultural equipment, hates to see the drought conditions in western Kansas. He cringes at reports of rain in the corn belt, which is keeping farmers in Illinois, Indiana and Ohio from planting their crops.
"A lot who would have planted corn will now switch to soybeans, which has a shorter growing time," Scheible said.
