Lee Fontan was sitting on his surfboard beyond the lineup of surfers, gazing out upon the Pacific Ocean. Separated from the pack, he was a sitting duck.
A disturbance in the water behind him, toward the other surfers, caught his attention. Fontan thought another surfer was paddling out his way.
Little did he know a torpedo with razor-like teeth was zeroing in on him. He started to turn around.
"Before I could even turn around to look if it was a person, bam! It had me," Fontan, 24, told the San Francisco Chronicle. "It grabbed me ... just like a freshwater bass will grab a frog."
