2002 JUN 10 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Atopic eczema affecting babies and sensitive skin areas such as the face has been successfully treated with the new nonsteroid cream Elidel (pimecrolimus), according to data presented at the Society for Investigative Dermatology congress in Los Angeles.

Studies in patients ages 3 months to 18 years showed that on the face and neck, where treatment with topical corticosteroids is often restricted because of potential side effects such as skin thinning, Elidel reduced the severity of the eczema by an average of 64% over 6 weeks. This compared with only a 12% reduction on average for patients treated with a vehicle cream. ...
