DEAR DR. BLONZ: I wanted to pass along some information that might be helpful to others. My daughter had been having problems with stomach aches, and we weren't sure whether it was a symptom of a medical condition, stress or even a food allergy. Our family physician asked about a number of things, including whether she chewed gum and ate sugarless mints. When he asked this question, I could see my daughter's eyes light up, as she always chews sugarless gum. Since we eliminated the gum, her stomach problems have disappeared. - S.A., Martinez, Calif.
