The 1990s saw the largest number of foreign arrivals ever recorded in U.S. history, eclipsing even the "Great Wave" of immigrants who came here in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, according to a new analysis of Census data.
New immigrants made up 42 percent of the nation's entire population growth over the last decade, compared to 35 percent between 1900 and 1910, when millions of people from southern and eastern Europe flooded America's largest cities, Northeastern University's Center for Labor Market Studies found.
