PETE SAMPRAS took a sweetener in excess of [pound]200,000 yesterday to snub next week's Stella Artois Championships.
The seven-times Wimbledon champion will miss the annual warm-up tournament at Queen's Club and instead goes to the Gerry Weber Open in Halle, Germany.
Having originally asked for a wildcard entry to be reserved for him at this year's event in London, Sampras decided to accept the German appearance money, which is more than double the Queen's offer of around [pound]100,000.
