This week's U.S. Supreme Court decision cannot take back the five months of hell young LaShonda Davis endured in a Georgia classroom. But the high court ruling can give the Davis family and others hope that school officials will work harder to protect kids from sexual harassment.
Back in 1992 and 1993, the 10-year-old Georgia girl was grabbed, touched and subjected to a barrage of sexual comments by a fifth-grade classmate. After each of the earliest incidents, she told her teachers, but they did nothing. Her mother spoke to the principal, without result. Eventually the girl's grades dropped and she contemplated suicide to escape the taunting.
