May 31, 2002 (Australian Defence Magazine
ABIX via COMTEX) -- The need for an independent security and defence advisory body has been met by the Australian Government. In March 2002, the Australian Defence Minister, Senator Robert Hill, launched the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI). The new body has a dual role of delivering specialist advice to the Government as well as contributing to public debate on defence issues. ASPI will be the chief source of strategic and defence information for the Government, alongside the public service and the Australian Defence Force. Hugh White is the new director of ASPI.
