THE EUROPEAN Union (EU) plans to request obligatory detonation tests of ammonium nitrate products throughout the EU because of the explosion at an ammonium nitrates store in Toulouse, France, last September, which killed 30 people.
The EU regulation is likely to be similar to the one just drawn up by the French government. That law states that fertilizer suppliers must provide detailed evidence that detonation-test certificates for their products are genuine.
The new French restriction replaces an existing regulation requiring fertilizer producers and importers in France to carry out detonation tests.
