WASHINGTON--The Federal Communications Commission late Friday delayed the auction for the upper 700 MHz band (TV channels 60-69) until June 14, 2003, but will go ahead with an auction for the lower 700 MHz band (TV channels 52-59) as scheduled on June 19.
"I am well aware that there has been a late-inning legislative drive by the industry to change the law and remove the dates that have been leading us to conduct these auctions at this time. If Congress passes into law such changes, the [FCC] will immediately and faithfully comply.... By our actions today, we are not trying to out-race congressional efforts to change the law.
