BABIES who are breastfed are less likely to grow into obese children, a major study reveals today.

Research involving 32,000 youngsters found that breastfeeding makes a child a third less likely to be overweight.

Even when birthweight, sex and social status of the family were taken into account, the link to a reduced risk of obesity remained.

The latest research, published in The Lancet, means mothers may be able to offer their child some protection from weight problems simply by feeding them themselves.
