Los Angeles voters will decide in November whether to let Hollywood break away to become its own city, now that the Los Angeles Local Area Formation Commission approved the secession measure on Wednesday.
Voters will simultaneously decide whether to approve the secession of the San Fernando Valley.
Only two such special reorganizations have occurred in California history, so having two on one ballot is unprecedented, said LAFCO executive director Larry Calemine.
