When soldiers in the 10th Regiment Illinois Volunteer Infantry of the Illinois State Militia went to fight in the Civil War, they would take more than their weapons.
They would carry their bedding, as well as a Bible, so they could administer last rites and - on many occasions - pray.
"That's a good thing to do when you find yourself in the situation we're in," Billy Daly told fifth-grade students in Glen Ellyn.
