In a 5 June message to Iranian President Mohammad Khatami, Afghan interim-administration chief Hamid Karzai expressed his condolences on the 13th anniversary of the death of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, founder of the Islamic Republic, IRNA reported. That message followed an announcement by Afghan Foreign Ministry spokesman Omar Samad on 3 June that Khatami would visit Kabul before the Loya Jirga commences, IRNA reported on 4 June.
