Nearly a third of the most remote part of the Tug Hill Plateau will be spared from development through a $9.1 million deal announced Monday by the state and The Nature Conservancy.
Almost all of the 44,650-acre purchase - more than 15 times the size of Onondaga Lake - will remain in private hands under the deal. Most of it will still be logged using sustainable practices.
