Phyllis Gray has been a member of the Christ Episcopal Church on River Street in Hyde Park's Cleary Square since 1965 but never imagined she would take the lead in coordinating the restoration of a village church designed by renowned church architect Ralph Adams Cram.
The retired owner of two children's dress shops, one of which was in Hyde Park, Gray was made the local project coordinator because she knew the local politicians and business people. She had neither experience with contractors nor fund-raising experience.
