New NAMM Hall of Famers, William F. Ludwig Sr. & Jr.
More than any other two individuals, William F. Ludwig Sr. and William F. Ludwig Jr. defined the modern percussion industry. A gifted percussionist and engineer, William F. Ludwig Sr. virtually created the contemporary drum set when he invented the first effective bass drum pedal. His son, William Jr., built Ludwig Industries into a major factor in the percussion industry and brought contemporary sales and marketing methods to the drum industry. Most notably, he secured the endorsement of Ringo Starr of the Beatles.
