The Cincinnati Stock Exchange, which has witnessed explosive growth since the leading electronic communications network, Island, started reporting its trades there, is looking for a buyer who may well be the Toronto Stock Exchange, industry sources said.

According to one source, the TSE is in hot pursuit of Cincinnati because such an acquisition would eliminate barriers for U.S. and Canadian investors who want to trade stocks on both sides of the frontier. It would also provide a greater opportunity for U.S. and Canadian companies to raise capital.
