While grousing about the lack of affordable housing is fast becoming the true national pastime, the issue has not gotten much attention from leaders in Washington, D.C.

In the last presidential election, neither candidate mentioned housing in any of the debates, said San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown in a phone interview.

But that may be about to change.

Mayors from around the country gathered for the U.S. Conference of Mayors meeting will be strategizing ways to push the issue onto the national agenda, said Brown.
