Jun. 16--The verdict is in: Lifting regulations from industries, like airlines, the phone business and banking, was a bold experiment that produced some surprising benefits, but overall the idea has left consumers worse off.
That's Consumers Union talking last week, issuing its findings on deregulation, which has been with us more than two decades.
I think the Consumers Union report highlights some problems. But overall it seems naive, an instance of wanting to have things both ways.
