For the past eight weeks, the Carolina Hurricanes have been everyone's darling: gritty, resilient, tenacious. They are the kind of team you root for, a team you can't help but like and appreciate. They are like the neighborhood guys made good, a sort of Every Team.
The Detroit Red Wings? Well, Monday night's 3-0 winners over the Hurricanes are the stuff of opponents' nightmares: fat payroll, a glut of character and talent, a swagger that befits all that skill.
Maybe in fairy tales or after-school specials, the little fellow can find a way to scrap past the big bully ...
