Love him or hate him, you cannot deny that Joseph Blatter is the consummate politician. The president of Fifa, the game's world governing body, is now so in control of his organisation that he is easily the most powerful man in football since Joao Havelange.

It takes a man of skill to survive an attempted coup by his so-called friends and, in public at least, there does not appear to be any sign of bitterness. The proof of this is that Blatter famously asked the media to help him unite football. Only a leading politician would do that.
