The ongoing struggle between American Indians and the U.S. federal government over management of American Indian trust funds could have implications for how the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) Bureau of Land Management (BLM) does its job.
At issue are millions of dollars in funds belonging to American Indians and American Indian tribes as reimbursement for federally managed use of tribal lands. As the government manages use of American Indian lands, accurate surveying and analysis of land data helps determine who pays how much to use the land and, ultimately, which people or groups are reimbursed for such use.
