Light rail trains and buses are a step closer to eventually sharing the downtown Seattle transit tunnel.
The proposal won approval from the Sound Transit board yesterday, but still needs a nod from the King County Council and the Seattle City Council.
Yesterday, the Sound Transit board also instructed its executive director to apply to the Federal Transit Administration for a $500 million full-funding grant that will be used to start construction on the first section of the $2.1 billion project. The 14-mile light rail line is to go from downtown Seattle to Tukwila.
