HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Pa. Gov. Mark Schweiker today announced that he has directed his Cabinet to identify additional cuts in departmental operating budgets -- yet another proactive step to deal with a mounting revenue shortfall in Pennsylvania.
Gov. Schweiker already has frozen more than $300 million in spending in the current fiscal year, with a shortfall now expected to be at least $1.2 billion when the fiscal year concludes at the end of June.
In his June radio address, Gov. Schweiker called on legislative leaders to adopt a responsible approach to budgeting.
