Though consolidation and the wobbly economy have shrunk the market for banking lawyers, high-profile bankruptcies and widespread accounting issues have increased demand for some specialists, observers say.
"Workout, bankruptcy, and solvency lawyers that service banks are at a premium because there are so many more troubled credits," said Michael A. Nemeroff, a lawyer who heads the finance and transactions group at the Chicago law firm Vedder, Price, Kaufman & Kammholz. "Those lawyer skills are greatly needed right now, and there are many hiring opportunities in those areas."
