It is unlikely that there could be two more different countries than the United States and tiny Bhutan, squeezed in the folds of mountains between China and India.
There is the size, first of all; Bhutan is about as large as Switzerland.
Then there is the attitude. In the United States we know well the words "gross national product." In Bhutan, His Majesty King Jigme Singye Wangchuck has declared in numerous speeches that his development goal for the country is "gross national happiness."
