EEs find lean pickings in space shuttle program NASA's space shuttle program certainly hasn't got the spark of new design and devlopment frontiers that it once did. Conceived in the 1970s and flying since 1981, it's now considered more operational than developmental, both by NASA and by the program's contractors. Nonetheless, a modest number of opportunities could arise for engineers with space systems experience.
Jobs could come from several sources. A steadily increasing flight schedule, update projects and redesigns, and a move to increase the use of NASA's civil service work force in technical positions could create jobs.
