IF OPERA and football have become curiously linked then you can probably blame the singing triumvirate of Pavarotti, Domingo and Carreras. The Three Tenors' performance at the 1990 World Cup concert together with Pavarotti's theme tune Nessun Dorma for the BBC coverage gave opera a market it never expected.
Football never quite lost its taste for the music - Pavarotti is regularly photographed kicking a ball - and this year the connection has come roaring back.
