Introduction
Historically, women dominated the pedagogical processes. Women were the educators in the one-room school house. Contracts were drawn for these women in which they agreed to several stipulations for a monthly salary of $75. In Wisconsin, a typical teacher's contract for the school year of 1922 was as follows:
Miss--agrees:
* Not to get married. This contract becomes null and void immediately if the teacher marries.
* Not to keep company with men.
* To be home between the hours of 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. unless in attendance at a school function.
* Not to loiter downtown in ice-cream parlors.
